Rainbow Gummy Bookmark
Here’s a fun DIY for all my fellow readers and students: a bookmark that’ll make sure you never lose track of the last page you read!
You know those delicious, long rainbow gummies that are super pretty? Yep, those sweet treats were the exact inspiration behind this colorful bookmark. Warning: it looks good enough to eat!
You’ll need:
- Air-dry clay (biscuit)
- Acrylic paint
- White glitter
- Glossy varnish
- (Optional) A tassel
1. Create the gummy (oops — I mean bookmark!)
I started by coloring 6 equal balls of biscuit clay with acrylic paint — one for each color of a pastel rainbow. First, I kneaded the clay well to soften it, then flattened it and added a small amount of paint. After that, I kneaded it again until the color was evenly incorporated. I recommend adding small amounts of paint at a time until you reach your desired shade.
As you color each ball, wrap the others in plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out — biscuit clay dries quickly, especially after adding paint.
Next, I rolled each color into a thin snake, making sure they were all about the same thickness. Then I arranged them in rainbow order, sticking them together with a little water. I used a rolling pin to flatten everything evenly, trimmed the ends to the desired bookmark length, and made a small hole on one end for the tassel.
Drying Tip:
- After 6 hours of drying, flip the bookmark to the other side.
- After 12 hours, place a lightweight book on top (protect it with parchment paper) and leave it for another 12 hours.
- Then remove the book and let the bookmark air-dry completely.
2. Add white glitter
To mimic the sugar on real gummies, I brushed a thin layer of white glue over the bookmark and sprinkled white glitter all over. I then sealed it with glossy varnish. This adds protection and keeps your books from getting glittery. To be honest, I kinda wish I didn’t have to varnish my bookmark because the sugary effect from the glitter faded a little after applying the varnish, even though I used a glossy one. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still super cute, and varnishing is a must if you want to avoid glitter falling off everywhere.
3. Attach the tassel (totally optional, but adorable!)
Want to make it extra cute? Tie a tassel through the hole!

And that’s it! This DIY looks so realistic it might fool your classmates — plus, it adds a sweet little sparkle to your reading time.
