DIY: Halloween Bottle Decoration
I absolutely ADORE Halloween. Sadly, here in Portugal, we don’t celebrate it quite like they do in the U.S. Sure, we see a few decorations in stores and there are some themed events, but the streets aren’t filled with kids going trick or treating… which is a shame, honestly.
Still, that doesn’t stop me from celebrating! Every year, I fill my home with spooky decorations I’ve collected over time and throw a little Halloween party. And yes, you guessed it — some of my favorite pieces are DIYs I made myself.
Today, I’m going to show you how to make this awesome spooky bottle I decorated when I was little — and guess what? I still have it to this day! It’s super simple to make, but the result looks amazing and shop-worthy.
Materials You’ll Need:
- A fun-shaped bottle (a whiskey bottle works great!)
- Toilet paper
- White glue
- Paint
- Optional: plastic spiders, hot glue, labels, or other decorations
Optional spooky tip:
On my bottle, you’ll notice what looks like an engraved skeleton (despite having lost a leg). I made that by printing a skeleton in the size I wanted, placing a sheet of tracing paper over it, and drawing over the lines with hot glue (make sure your glue gun is hot!). Once dry, I glued the design onto the bottle — and voilà, spooky embossed look!
You can also use this technique to add creepy potion names directly on the glass!
How To Make It:
1. Create the aged texture with toilet paper
The goal here is to make your bottle look like it came straight out of a witch’s potion room! Apply white glue all over the bottle and start pressing down crumpled pieces of toilet paper. Let it wrinkle and bunch up a bit to give it a textured, old look.
2. Paint your potion bottle
I used black and brown paint to give mine an aged look, applying the brown details with a sponge to give it a more antique feel. But feel free to play with color — deep purples, eerie greens, and rusty reds can all look amazing!
And that’s it! A super simple DIY that looks incredible and totally store-bought. I like to decorate my bottle with a Halloween flower I found once — it’s black and orange with a skull in the center (you can see it in the photo!).

See you next time! Ladybug out!
